Final cover for Forward.
I took a picture of the vase and created a pattern from it--turning it many different ways to see what potential my client saw for the project.
Designs for album release from Texas musician, Amy Edwards. Working with Amy Edwards from the beginning of her solo career, this was an opportunity to take a funner approach to her branding, since her music was also taking a more lighthearted tone. Amy was a great communicator about how she wanted to be represented in her branding; she would send me Instagram links of digital illustrators and designers whose work she liked, and I was able to formulate an idea of the person she wanted to have represented as a visual complement to the music she was creating.
The initial concept for the vision album started with a vase. Amy brought a colorful, modern vase into our office and talked about how she wanted it to impact the design of her new cover. With this, we worked with Micky Hoogendijk, the primary photographer for the shoot, as well as with Project Runway alumnus, Daniel Esquivel. He created a structural dress (mimicking the lines of the vase) that Mickey then photographed our musician in. I then took the image Amy and Micky wanted for the cover and honestly Photoshopped the heck out of it.
My plan was to create a very surreal album cover that is colorful, whimsical, and looks good as a vinyl cover. The album is called Forward, and I wanted the visual to be a metaphoric representation of moving out of one's confines into open space. I broke apart elements from the vase (color vs structure) to represent the duality of purpose found in the album. With that being the jumping point, Amy and I moved forward towards more fashionable and current trends in design and branding.
